MY FIRST VISIT TO A FIVE STAR HOTEL
When I was a kid I had always wanted to visit and stay at a five star hotel, unfortunately, I had never had the opportunity, let alone the means to realize this. So when I turned fifteen and my mother finally allowed me to go on a trip to Tanzania with my cousins, an incident that I consider to be a complete miracle to this day, I was ecstatic. We had an opportunity to stay at the Ngurdoto Mountain Lodge, a well known five star hotel in Tanzania.
The visit to the lodge was quite unforgettable. I remember the hotel compound had one of the most striking green carpeted lawns centred by a glorious cascading fountain. The different species of trees and the birds, with beautiful bright colours, made the garden look all the more outstanding. I stood in my tracks just to take in the magnificent scenery; I could hear the birds singing sweet melodies that made me feel so warm inside. I made my way to the reception whose pathway consisted of shiny marble and sandstone rocks, with lilies, and scented poppies on either side of the path.
At the reception area were comfortable chaise longue sets which, I assumed, were meant for guests to relax. As we approached the reception desk, my eyes met with the deep set eyes of a gentleman who sat behind the desk. He immediately rose to his feet, flashing a smile at us, and with his deep baritone voice said, “Welcome to Ngurdoto Mountain Lodge...” That’s all it took for me to fall in love with that hotel.
